Merry Christmas Everyone!

24 Dec

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come along to The Woolpack on a Thursday eve and put in so much to the choir. We have had a great year and I really can see and hear that we are going from strength to strength.

One of the most magical moments for me was WHITE CHRISTMAS and WAR IS OVER with The Fortnights at Korks last Sunday. AMAZING! But this year we have also had the magical experiences of singing for the Tour De France crowds, the Food Bank, the Donkey Sanctuary and The Christmas Tree festival.

It’s really exciting to think what 2015 has in store for us… new songs, performances and lots of fun Thursdays together.

Wishing you and your nearest and dearest a very Happy Christmas and a lovely new year! (We are singing for Tealbeck on Christmas Day at 2pm if you fancy joining us for an hour – meet at The Woolpack 1:45pm – all welcome!)

Listen to how amazing you all sound!!!!

War Is Over

18 Oct

We’re starting our preparations for Christmas early this year! We have lots of songs to get ready for our Christmas gigs!

Come and see us sing at the Otley Christmas Lights switch on (Monday 2nd December) and at our Christmas Party (Sunday 22nd December – Korks)

Last night we started work on Happy Xmas (War is Over)

War Is Over

The song was written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono and released in 1971. It is a protest song about the Vietnam war, encouraging social unity and peaceful change.  Lennon apparently wanted the song to be optimistic whilst avoiding the sentimentality of many Christmas songs.

You can find the score here…

and have a listen to the demo (thanks again to Richard for helping me record it!)

WAR IS OVER (no ukes)

WAR IS OVER (with ukes)

WAR IS OVER (lead only)

Happy singing! See you all soon 🙂

happy new year!

8 Jan

hello lovely singers!

i am really looking forward to thursday – and we will carry on where we left off with AIN’T NO SUNSHINE. have a listen to the demo to refresh your memory

i hope you can join us. if you are thinking of coming for the first time then you will be more than welcome. i promise you, there is no better way to beat the january blues than with a good sing with some lovely people!

so here are the photos from our end of term show back in december. my only regret is that i didn’t take any more – but i had quite a lot of running around to do! the performance was incredible and to think of what we achieved in such a small amount of time.

what a beautiful bunch of people! 😉

15.12.12 15.12.12 15.12.12 (3) 15.12.12 (4) IMGP3963

Come and hear OTLEY A CAPPELLA and SING IT! in action this monday!

13 Dec

hello everyone!

just reminding you that our first proper performance is taking place this monday (17th december 2012) at the courthouse, otley, as part of the woolpack end of term show! tickets are £3 on the door (if you are not performing) and it’s going to be a cracker.

we have some festive songs for you to enjoy as well as some songs we have been working on in the relatively short time we have been singing together. the sing it! girls also have a lovely performance lined up for you….please come and show your support for them….!

at the a cappella session tonight we consolidated all the songs we will be performing paying special attention to MOVING ON UP (which is sounding so awesome!)

here are the separate parts from the original rough demo i did if any performers want to practise them but please excuse the quality!

MOVING ON UP harmony 1

MOVING ON UP harmony 2

we are also looking forward to a new year and new songs. mondays gig will be an excellent opportunity to see if you would like to be a part of what we do – it really is a lovely bunch of people who love to sing. if you’re interested in popping in to see if you’d like it then you would be VERY welcome!

Coming up this week – the boys take the lead!

27 Nov

carrying on with our christmas theme – i have wanted to do another song that people might not expect to hear (or indeed may never had heard before!)

i also wanted to give the boys the lead for a change so what better way than to look to bing crosby – mr christmas himself! (?!) but what’s better than bing? bing + the andrew sisters! this song was written for otley a cappella!

check out the recorded version of MELE KALIKIMAKA here….

so hoping that the otley ukulele orchestra join in with us on this one – have a listen to the demo i have recorded with the ukulele and get familiar with the song before thursday if you can.

Mele K 3 parts with uke

until then….keep singing!

o come and be christmassy!

23 Nov

last night we had a great time looking at the christmas songs we will be performing very soon (9th and 17th december!!!!!)

we looked at a traditional arrangement of o come all ye faithful – have a listen to it here

O COME ALL YE (4 parts)

or for individual parts (so you can practise!) here….

O COME ALL YE (soprano)

O COME ALL YE (alto)

O COME ALL YE (tenor)

O COME ALL YE (bass) – this is an octave up as i cannot sing THAT low!)

we also practised OAC BLUE CHRISTMAS NO UKE mp3 too and it sounded incredible.

i am really enjoying our thursday nights and have so many ideas and aspirations for us as a group…if we have achieved all this in such a short time imagine what we are capable of!?

see you next week!
