New Songs for January 2017

19 Jan

We have been working on two great songs so far this term… one is brand new to Otley A Cappella; our version of Joe Cocker’s version of The Beatles ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’! I love how powerful and heavy it is – and there are some lovely harmonies from the many singers on the stage.

Hear his version from the Mad Dogs and Englishmen 1970 tour, which features songwriter and musician Leon Russell who sadly died in 2016.

Here’s our version

For the separate parts please see the HAVE A LISTEN page. The sheet music can be found on the SONGS WE DO page.

We have also re-introduced our arrangement of Elbow’s ‘One Day Like This’- which has been a favourite since we did it all those years ago!

New singers are always welcome! We will continue to meet weekly (with a break for the school holidays in February and April) so we hope to see you very soon. 🙂

    Hello Jen,
I’ve sent you an e-mail but not heard back from you.
I’m interested in coming along this evening to find out more about the choir.
I’ve recently moved from South London where I’ve been singing with Tradewinds (Melanie Harrold) for more than ten years. We’ve enjoyed a range of world music, folk music, some oldies and a fair sprinkling of Georgian songs and performed regularly including France and Germany. I usually sing soprano or just under. Would it be ok to come along?

Hi Simone I’m so sorry you didn’t hear back from me but I haven’t received an email from you! You’d be really welcome to come along this evening to see what you think – we will be starting work on a new arrangement ‘Broken Stones’ by Paul Weller. We are a community choir so the main emphasis is having a great time together whilst creating beautiful harmonies. Reading music isn’t essential although I do hand out scores. People can choose which part they’d like to sing to – you’re not tied to a part forever.

We’ll be there tonight from 7:15pm for a 7:30pm start. I really hope you can join us!

      Best wishes

      Jen
